Powershell - How to use UserLockPowerShell on Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows Server 2008

By default, UserLockPowerShell is not available on Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2.

If you try to launch UserLockPowerShell on a default installation of Windows Server 2008 R2, you will get the following error message:

PowerShell is not supported

On Windows Server 2008 only (not needed on Windows Server 2008 R2), install DotNet 4 and PowerShell 2.0

  1. Install DotNet 4:
    Click on "Download".
    Run it.

  2. Click on Download and then choose "WINDOWS6.1-KB2506143-x64.msu" from
    Install PowerShell 2.0
    Browse (if OS is x86, see
    Click on "Download".
    Run it.

Install PowerShell 3.0

  1. Click on Download and then choose "WINDOWS6.1-KB2506143-x64.msu" from

    Choose the download

  2. Copy it to a local folder. For instance, C:\Temp\:


  3. Run it:

    Run it

  4. Click on 'Yes':


  5. Click on 'I Accept':

    License Terms

    Click on Restart Now to apply the installation of PowerShell 3.0.

Use UserLockPowerShell

  1. Run the UserLock Console

  2. Select the UserLockPowerShell icon or press. It will launch it:

    UserLock PowerShell

  3. Use UserLockPowershell commands, for example:
