The Challenge Deploy 2FA Solution to Meet Cyber Insurance Requirements

The City was looking to deploy 2FA across multiple departments, starting with the Police Department and City Hall, with the goal to extend protection from there across all Active Directory users.

When the City’s IT Supervisor, learned that 2FA would soon be a requirement, he began researching MFA solutions. He was looking for a 2FA solution that wasn’t overly complex, would meet the cyber insurance requirements, and was cost effective. He also wanted the solution to improve risk management across the City’s network.

Many local government colleagues use Duo, so that’s where he started his testing. But, after trying it out, he quickly realized that he wanted to keep looking. The high price tag didn’t seem to match the quality of his experience.

The Solution Affordable, On-Premise 2FA That Is User-Friendly and Intuitive to Manage

The IT Supervisor tested multiple vendors and compared UserLock to other MFA packages, including Microsoft’s and Google’s. His requirements were clear: he wanted an on-premise solution that was affordable, and extremely easy to use and implement.

Since most government employees do not have a department-issued smartphone, the IT supervisor appreciated that he could choose between different authentication methods. They settled on a Token2 hardware authentication method for secure, quick authentication.

The IT Supervisor also quickly set up single sign-on (SSO) and applied 2FA to SSO connections, particularly to protect email access to Office 365, which was a requirement from his insurance provider.

While the City focus is on 2FA, they are also liking the ability to go beyond Active Directory’s native user monitoring capabilities. It’s simply easier to do in UserLock.
