Founded in Singapore, Wong Fong Engineering provides high-tech and innovative solutions for seamless loading and transportation logistics, effective waste management processes, mobility aids and defence systems. With over 50 years of experience and a wide range of products, Wong Fong Engineering is a leader in smart engineering solutions

In 2013 the company opened Wong Fong Research and Innovation Centre (WFRIC), a department dedicated to re-engineering and re-designing Wong Fong’s products to meet the demands of the ever-changing industrial landscape.

The Challenge Failure to track the access and movement of sensitive files

WFRIC is the heart of Wong Fong Engineering’s innovation and development; a lot of critically important work happens there. All work in this department is documented and filed on the server but there had been some incidences where interns were involved in suspicious activities that resulted in files being stolen.

Noel Basa, IT engineer at Wong Fong Engineering, is the person responsible for all IT needs within the company. When he was informed that files had gone missing his only option at the time to was check the firewall, however all this did was indicate that a file was missing, not which file was taken or which user login was implicated. It quickly became apparent that the company’s manual processes were time-consuming and ineffective.

As the sole IT person in the company, Noel needed to find an easy to use, server-based solution that would help him to track files more closely and efficiently.

The Solution File auditing proved to be very user friendly and very intuitive with FileAudit

After searching the internet for information on how to audit files Noel quickly came across IS Decisions’ FileAudit. Reluctant to try it on the server, Noel initially set up a FileAudit trial on his computer. After a few successful sessions, he was confident to then install the intuitive software directly on the Wong Fong Engineering server.

FileAudit was simple to set up alongside the company’s existing systems, and was up and running and fully configured to the file access and reporting requirements within minutes of starting the installation.

The installation was so simple — whoever designed this, really thought about the interface. It took just a matter of minutes, like installing an antivirus — very easy.

The Benefits A robust, server-friendly solution to track stolen files

By using FileAudit, Noel can now monitor real-time access to files and better protect the particularly valuable ‘data’ and intellectual property contained within WFRIC.

FileAudit

When any suspicious activity happens he is now sent actionable intelligence straight away allowing him to intervene before the horse has bolted. Regular auditing reports are also sent via email which give useful insights into suspicious activity, for example a list of the files certain employees have deleted on a given day.

Wong Fong Engineering started using FileAudit in October 2016.
