# Quick start with UserLock

Minimal setup to test UserLock features quickly.

UserLock can be up and running in less than an hour.
Follow this tutorial to:

1. Install UserLock.
2. Deploy your first agent.
3. Configure a simple access policy.
4. Verify activity with audit and reports.

## Prerequisites

- Active Directory domain environment.
- Windows Server supported by UserLock.
- Domain Administrator account.

## Step 1 — Install UserLock

1. [Download](/userlock/download) the UserLock installer.
2. Run the setup on a Windows Server joined to your domain.
3. Launch the UserLock console at the end of the setup.

## Step 2 — Deploy your first agent

1. In the UserLock console, open the **Machines** page of the **Environment** section.
2. Choose a workstation in the list and click on the Workstation agent button to deploy it.
3. Verify the agent status turns to *Installed*.

💡** Tip:** You can enable **Automatic installation** so new machines receive the Desktop agent automatically.

## Step 3 — Configure your first access policy

1. In the console, open the **Access policies** section.
2. Click on the **Add** button and follow the **policy wizard**.
3. For example, you can add a [Machine restriction](/userlock/docs/reference/access-policies/machine-restriction) policy to a test user account, and configure it to deny the access of the selected user to the machine on which you installed the agent.

## Step 4 — Verify activity with audit and reports

1. Log on to the machine where you installed the agent, with an account **not concerned** by the access policy.
2. In the UserLock console, open the **Activity** section to confirm the open session is displayed.
3. Next, try logging in with the user account that the access policy applies to. The access should be denied.
4. Finally, in the **Reporting** section, open the **Denied logons** report to view the recorded event.
